Overview of LS&MEM

The Laboratory for Simulation and Modeling of Energetic Materials (LSMEM) in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign refers to the group of D. Scott Stewart.

The group currently consists of Prof. Stewart, Dr. Sunhee Yoo (Senior Research Engineer), Dr. John Bdzil, (ret.) Fellow Los Alamos National Laboratory,Dr. Joseph C. Foster, (ret.) Fellow, Air Force Research Laboratory, and currently four graduate research assistants. The group works on a wide spectrum of problems in the general area of combustion, detonation and shock physics of energetic materials. We work closely with Profs. Nick Glumac,Herman Krier and their graduate students and staff in the Laboratory for Energetic Materials.

Our work is currently sponsored by the US Air Force (USAF) Research Laboratory, USAF Office of Scientific Research, Office of Naval Research and the US Department of Energy (DOE) through the DOE ASCI Center for Simulation of Advanced Rockets (CSAR) and Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Florida Institute for Research in Energetics (FIRE).  In addition we have many active collaborators at other universities and national laboratories throughout the world.
